New Corrosion Protection

Paints and Coatings

Based on the very new Organic Metals, Ormecon Chemie offers to provide extremely well performing corrosion protection for any new steel construction produced for the Olympics.

The new technology goes back to the discovery of "conductive polymers" in 1977 by the year 2000 Nobel prize winners MacDiarmid, Shirakawa and Heeger. Ormecon Chemie has started research in 1979 developing the first commercial processible and useful "conductive polymers", and even succeeded to generate metallic properties.

This Organic Metal, which is almost as noble as silver, acts as a catalyst. It provides a completely new protection mechanism: ennobling and passivation, allowing for an about 2 to 10 times longer life of metallic products under comparable corrosive conditions. Zipperling Kessler (Ormecon's holding company) is the owner of world-wide exclusive patent rights in this area. Corrosion protection products are sold under the trade name CORRPASSIVÔ .

The state owned German Environment Trust (Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt) has funded the development of practically useful coating systems for various applications over the last years. In about 100 commercial objects, the technology has proven to be technically viable and economically competitive since 1996. Many such reference objects have been realized in Japan.

Ormecon Chemie plans to start a Joint Venture production company in Changchun together with a Chinese company, which is also active in conductive polymers, and which is interested to acquire know how and license rights to produce and use this technology for the Chinese market. We would be interested to provide such coatings either directly from Germany or through this JV, should it become operational early enough.
