Organic Metal/Tin solderable surface
finish
successfully introduced in the Market
New products under development and close to the market
Two years ago, Ormecon Chemie surprised the market at the productronica
97 with a revolutionary new
immersion tin surface: tin is deposited on the copper surface with the catalytic help
of an Organic Metal, which also passivates the copper and the tin. Ormecon Chemie, located
in Ammersbek (near Hamburg, Germany) is the first and only supplier of Organic Metals
world-wide.
Now, the company can show significant progress: more than
25 installations of ORMECON CSN lines world-wide, most of them in the US (in
collaboration with Florida CirTech, marketed there under "OMIKRON PLUS"), the
biggest one in Korea, a custom finishing line at "Ormecon Korea". Besides the
installations in PCB shops, more than 30 companies have released the ORMECON CSN surface, many of
which are ordering this surface finishing in several custom finishing shops.
Even three horizontal lines (2 in Great Britain, 1 in Korea) are successfully working with
the new concept, which is focused to replace Hot Air Levelling, and can successfully
compete with OSP, silver and gold: with costs 10 - 30% lower than HASL and OSP, a factor
of 2 - 4 lower than gold, it is commercially more attractive than most of the surface
finishes.
Technically, the new tin finish meets the toughest requirements in ageing, and several deep studies have shown the chemical,
morphological and diffusion characteristics responsible for the extremely good ageing
properties.
Recently a new product was presented, ORMECON CSN PREMIUM, which also meets all
requirements under accelerated humid ageing conditions (85% rel. humidity, 85 °C, 24 hrs;
steam ageing etc.) comparable or even better than a gold finish. In contrast to Silver and
OSP, the PREMIUM process leads to a surface finish also solderable after dry (155 °C / 4
hrs) ageing.
Wetting balance results demonstrate the superior performance.
Ormecon is working also on a new tin-free, purely organic solderable surface finish, which
will be introduced as "Organic Metal Solderable Finish" (OMSF) with good
solderability properties under dry and humid ageing conditions as well.
ORMECON CSN is actually being offered in more than a dozen countries.
Ormecon Chemie has closed a license and market collaboration contract with DuPont
(Wilmington, DE, USA) on the field of Organic Metals.
We are looking forward to meet you in Hall 3 at our booth No. BE.539!
